Nikos Sofianos, the KKE's candidate for Athens mayor

The member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee, Nikos Sofianos, is the candidate of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) for the mayorship of the Greek capital in October 8th regional and municipal elections.

An experienced KKE cadre, with a long political and social activity, Sofianos has been a member of the Athens Municipal Council since 2010 under the banner of the KKE-supported "Athens People's Rally".

Greece: People's solidarity stops seizure of pensioner’s home by the banks

On Monday, November 21, at 5.30 in the morning a bailiff with police forces broke into the house of an elderly woman, a low pensioner in Athens, Greece, in order to evict her and her home to be given to a fund that had bought her debt.

The elderly woman, Ioanna Kolovou, mother of a person with special needs, had a debt from credit cards of 15.000€, which, when she lost her husband, she could not afford its payment and asked for a settlement of the debt. While the bank was delaying the procedures the interests were growing and doubled the debt with the Bank going forward to auctioning her home to a Fund (called "vultures" for taking people’s homes).

Massive anti-war rally of the KKE in Athens

Thousands of protesters in Athens responded to the call of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) and participated in a large anti-imperialist, anti-war rally held at Syntagma Square, in front of the Parliament. 

Waving red flags and shouting anti-imperialist slogans, the demonstrators raised their voice against the imperialist war in Ukraine and expressed their firm opposition to Greece's involvement in the dangerous US-NATO-EU plans.

Greece: Massive anti-imperialist rallies in honor of the 1973 Polytechnic Uprising

Thousands of people took part in the annual rallies held in Athens, Thessaloniki and other major Greek cities by the Communist Party (KKE) and its youth wing (KNE) on Wednesday 17 November, in order to commemorate the 48th anniversary of the 1973 Polytechnic Uprising against the military Junta.

In Athens, the demonstrators marched peacefully through central streets of the Greek capital, shouted anti-imperialist slogans (
"Since the Polytechnic, the enemy remains the same: NATO, governments, capitalism") and ended outside the U.S. Embassy where they burned flags of NATO and the United States.

Dimitris Koutsoumbas at KNE-Odigitis festival: "The KKE is here, for the society of true freedom, for socialism!"

The third and last day of the 47th KNE-Odigitis festival in Athens, on Saturday 25th September, was concluded with a massive political event with speakers being Nikos Abatielos, Secretary of the Central Council of KNE and Dimitris Koutsoumbas, General Secretary of the CC of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE). 
 
This year's festival was marked by a record attendance, with thousands of people, workers, young men and women, from every part of the Greek capital participating in the major events.

KNE-Odigitis Festival kicked off in Athens (Drone video)

Thousands of people of every age, from every part of Athens, attended the events of the first day of the 47th KNE-Odigitis Festival which kicked off yesterday at Tritsis multidisciplinacy park. 

Numerous cultural and political events took place on Thursday, including a music concert by popular singer George Dalaras dedicated to the late iconic composer Mikis Theodorakis, stand up comedy, concerts at the student's stage, as well as a theatrical performance about the Paris Commune and a discussion on the situation in Afghanistan.

Nationwide strike in Greece: Massive protests against the monstrous labour draft law

With massive demonstrations in Athens, Thessaloniki and other cities across Greece, thousands of people sent today a militant message to the government, demanding the immediate repealing of the monstrous draft bill which, among other things, provides the abolition of the 8-hour working day. 

The Unions have declared Thursday 10 June a 24-hour nationwide strike, as a protest against the governmental draft bill which aims to take the labour conditions back to the Middle Ages.

Mass protests by trade unions throughout Greece: Struggle against anti-people measures and repression

Thousands of people participated in the nationwide demonstrations organized by trade unions affiliated with PAME in Athens, Thessaloniki and other Greek cities on Tuesday 13th October. 
 
Workers, self-employed people, unemployed men and women, students and pensioners sent a powerful message of unyielding collective struggle against anti-worker measures and repression. 

In Athens' Syntagma Square, thousands of protesters demanded protection measures for the people's lifes and rights, including the shielding of hospitals and the public health system, the need for hiring more teachers and cleaning staff in public schools, cheap and safe public transport, policies against unemployment and dismissals, collective agreements and strengthening of the labor rights.

"The deadliest virus is capitalism": Great May Day rally by PAME in Athens

In a rally with great symbolism, workers and labour unions honored the International Workers’ Day in Athens’ Syntagma Square, thus sending a powerful message of proletarian solidarity. 

Organized by the All-Workers Militant Front (PAME), the rally took place with all the necessary measures of protection due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with the protestors keeping distance from each other, wearing masks and gloves.

Greeks pay tribute to the heroic 1973 Athens Polytechnic Uprising (PHOTOS)

Thousands of people of every age gathered today at the Athens Polytechnic in order to honour the heroic uprising of 1973 against the military dictatorship. 

The commemoration events which began on Friday will culminate on Sunday 17 November with the annual large anti-imperialist rally towards the U.S. embassy in downtown Athens. 

On the occasion of the Polytechnic uprsing anniversary, a statement by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) points out that "the slogans of the Polytechnic remain timely in the struggle aganst the policy that leads the people to poverty, unemployment, insecurity, against the implication of Greece in the imperialist plans of NATO-USA-EU, against repression and authoritarianism".

45th KNE-Odigitis festival concludes its journey on 19-21 September in Athens

After a successful tour throughout Greece, the festival of the Communist Youth of Greece (KNE) concludes with a three-day events at Tritsis Park in Athens. 

The festival will take place between 19 and 21 of September and includes numerous cultural and political events. 

This year's major slogan is Nazim Hikmet's words: "With the struggles, the dreams, our power... we will build a world that is free, open, full of hope". In a major political event, which has been scheduled for Saturday 21 September, the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) Dimitris Koutsoumbas will be the major speaker. A message will also be delivered by the Secretary of the CC of KNE Nikos Abatielos.

Thousands of men and women of every age, workers, self-employed and unemployed people, students and pensioners gathered on Wednesday afternoon in Athens' Syntagma Square in order to attend the central electoral rally of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE). 

Holding red flags and shouting slogans, members and supporters of the Communist Party sent a powerful message of struggle and hope, just 4 days before the parliamentary elections of July 7th. Dimitris Koutsoumbas, the Party's General Secretary, was the major speaker.

Athens turned red: Massive rally of the KKE sends message of hope and struggle (Photos)

A really massive and vivid rally of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) took place on Wednesday afternoon in central Athens, just 4 days before the double European and local elections of May 26th. 

Thousands of workers, young men and women, people of every age created a "red river" at Syntagma Square, sending a message of hope and struggle. 

The major speaker at the event was the KKE's General Secretary Dimitris Koutsoumbas. The rally was attended by a delegation of the Communist Party, Italy (PC) headed by the General Secretary Marco Rizzo who delivered a greeting message.

May Day 2019: Thousands joined PAME rally in Athens honoring Workers' Day

Thousands of workers, students, pensioners, men and women of every age, joined a massive rally organised by the All-Workers Militant Front (PAME) and class-based unions in the center of Athens on May 1st, honoring the International Workers' Day

The demonstrators sent a powerful message of resistance and counter-attack to the anti-worker policy unleashed by the capital, the EU and the bourgeois governments. Under the banners of PAME and the World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU), the protesters honored the heroes of the working class and the heroic struggles of the labor movement.

Worker killed on AEK stadium construction site - Another employer's crime in Greece

A 60 year old worker was killed today at the construction site of the AEK FC new stadium in west Athens. The worker, who was a welder, fell from a high height resulting in fatal injury. 

It must be noted that the man, alongside his fellow workers, were forced to work in dangerous posts, under extremely bad weather conditions. 

When the tragic incident became known, members of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) rushed to the construction site in order to be informed about the circumstances of the death and to express their solidarity to the workers.

Nikos Sofianos to be the Communist Party's candidate for mayor of Athens

Nikos Sofianos.
Nikos Sofianos, an experienced cadre of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) and a member of the Athens' City Council, will be the Party's candidate for the mayoralty of the Greek capital city in May 2019 elections. More specifically, the KKE Party Organisation of Attica announced the candidate mayors for the municipalities of Athens and Piraeus, as well as the candidate governor of Attica. 

For the municipality of Athens, the candidate will be Nikos Sofianos, 53, a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the KKE, also member of the Athens City Council since 2010. He was the Secretary of the Central Council of the Communist Youth (KNE) from 1991 to 2001.

Massive demonstration by the KKE against US-NATO military bases in Greece (Photos)

With the major slogan being "No to the plans of the government and imperialists, NATO and its bases out of Greece", thousands of workers, people of every age, participated in a militant rally organized on Tuesday evening by the Communist Party of Greece and its youth wing KNE in Athens. 

Members and friends of the KKE and KNE protested against the imperialist plans and raised their voice against the existence of US-NATO bases in Greece. The demonstrators demanded the closure of all foreign military bases and the return of all Greek soldiers who participate in NATO missions abroad.

KKE event in honor of the 74th anniversary of the liberation of Athens by EAM-ELAS

The Attica Party Organisation of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) organizes on Saturday 13 October, at 6 pm, a political event in honor of the 74 years since the liberation of Athens by the ELAS resistance army

The event is going to take place at Korais Square and a keynote speech will be delivered by Louiza Razou, member of the Politburo of the CC of the KKE.

Communist Party of Greece: Statement on the disastrous wildfires [En, Es, Ar]

In a statement regarding the disastrous wildfires, the Press Office of the CC of the Communist Party of Greece points out the following:

“The KKE expresses its condolences to the families of the victims of the fires in the area of Nea Makri and Rafina. It supports the dozens of injured people and thousands of people who saw their properties be consumed by firein the fires that hit East and West Attica.

The KKE demands from the government to mobilize all the necessary forces of the state mechanism to support the inhabitants of the regions. The government must take all necessary measuresin order to:
